We apply a hand scissor finish to most of our grooms to enhance the detail of the finish or to leave the coat in a much longer style. Certain breeds can be completely scissored for the ultimate finish in order to emphasis shape, style and angulations of the breed.
What is hand scissoring?
It’s a grooming technique that brings balance to the pet. Rather than simply using clipper blades, hand scissoring is a way to finish the groom in such a way that the pet is simply going to look better . Just as you expect your hair stylist will bring balance for the right style for you that same technique is what we use in hand scissoring.
We must not forget that in order to do a hand scissor trim, the pet must be in excellent prep shape—bathed with the cleanest hair possible. The drying must also leave the coat straight and most importantly, free of mats. All these stages this must be done correctly for that smooth hand-finished look.
You might think this technique is only one used on show dogs. Of course, show dogs are hand scissored—but a stylist doesn’t have to do show grooming to be able to use this technique. We use it all the time on the pets who come to our salon to give a good finish.
